Coffee & Chat

Thanks to everyone who was able to juggle their scheduled to meet us on a Wednesday morning.  Our February 7th conversation topics included:

1. A parent request to simplify and/or clarify the applications and websites used by ISL for lesson planning and communications. Some platforms mentioned included Schoology, OneNote, My iMaths, Korbett Maths,… Parents mentioned that many teachers use the systems which work best for their content and preference. A suggestion was made to ask other local schools what has been successful for their students. Another parent mentioned that ISL is working to streamline these platforms and more information may be provided soon.

2. Have you noticed if your child with ADHD prefers watching content with closed captioning and subtitles enabled? This may help neurodiverse children to simultaneously process visual and audio information. Here’s a short blog post on this topic: https://verbit.ai/how-assistive-technologies-subtitles-help-those-with-adhd/

Also an interesting note is that you can enable closed captioning for Google meetings and events. Here’s a general link to those instructions: https://just1voice.com/neurodiversity/enabling-automatic-live-captions-in-google-chrome/

3. For some people, routine sounds may result in an extreme involuntary anger/disgust emotional response. The most common trigger sounds are eating and breathing sounds, but any repeating sound can be a trigger. The condition is referred to as Misophonia or selective sound sensitivity syndrome. For more details about this https://misophoniainstitute.org/hidden-truth-misophonia/

4. Luxembourg resources for diagnosis. Our group and parents are working to gather more information about the CNI and CDA. Please let us know if you have worked through these Luxembourg processes: https://cc-cda.lu/en/specific-diagnosis/

Stay tuned for updates: There is a lot of planning going into Neurodiversity Celebration Week (March 18-22) events and content to be shared. 🙂
